Program Information (Degree)
This is a full-time, 3 semester program which meets primarily during the day. Days and times vary per semester. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensing Exam (NCLEX) to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Graduates may also transfer their units to any 4-year college or university if a bachelor鈥檚 degree in nursing (BSN) is desired.
Program Information (30-Unit Option)
Any LVN licensed in the state of California is eligible to apply for the non-degree 30-Unit option LVN-RN program for which 黑料网 acts as a facilitator. This program is prescribed by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and provides an RN license for California only. A maximum of 30 units of nursing and support courses is required to fulfill the unit requirement for licensure by the BRN. Students must possess a high school diploma, equivalent, or a degree in another field to be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN and/or apply for an RN license in the state of California. Students who complete this option will take the NCLEX-RN as a non-graduate.

Applicants who wish to pursue the 30-Unit Option must complete the same application form used for LVN-RN degree-seeking students and clearly indicate their selection of the 30-Unit Option where appropriate. Additionally, applicants are required to upload a completed with their application.
Key Considerations Before Applying to the LVN-RN Certificate Program (30-Unit Option)
- Most other states may not recognize this option and will not issue an RN license to students who complete this certificate pathway.
- Employment may be limited. For example, Veterans Administration Hospitals and the military require that an RN have an ADN and/or BSN for employment/commissions respectively.
- It is uncertain whether BSN programs will accept a 30-Unit-Option RN from California for admission.
- Once admitted to the 30-unit certificate option, students are not able to switch to the LVN-RN degree program.
- Students are responsible for course curriculum content for all waived courses.
- Students completing this option will not be considered graduates of the 黑料网 College Nursing Program and are not eligible to receive a nursing pin.
Prior to applying, the science prerequisites listed below must be completed with an overall grade point average of 2.5 with no grade less than a "C" for each course. Repeating a course after receiving a "W" does not count toward the single repetition rule.
- Human Anatomy (BIO 210 or BIO 210H)
- Human Physiology (BIO 220)
- Microbiology (BIO 230)
Sciences must be 4 or more units and include a lab component.
Completion of the following prerequisite with a grade of no less than 鈥淐鈥:
- Academic Reading and Writing (ENGL C1000) - 4 semester units or equivalent
- Pharmacology Essentials for Nursing Practice (PHAR 201) 鈥 3 semester units or equivalent
There is no expiration for any of the prerequisites.
Testing Requirement
All students must pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). This is a diagnostic test that covers math, reading, and science.
- Student must take ATI TEAS Version 7.
- Applicants that do not meet the minimum 62% are required to contact the Nursing Department to schedule an appointment with the Director to discuss a remediation plan before applying to the program. Remediation plans from other schools will not be accepted.
- If you would like to increase your points, a second attempt at the TEAS will be considered 6 months after the first attempt.
- If a student has multiple attempts the first TEAS score within the last 6 months will be accepted.
- Applicants need to upload all TEAS attempts with their application.
Additional Requirements
- Current and clear California Licensed Vocational Nursing License
- Students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and be willing to receive the influenza vaccine each year while in the program
- ALL nursing students are required to complete a background check and urine drug screen with American Databank before beginning a program in San Diego County. This is a Hospital/Health Care Agency requirement. If you have any convictions on your background check in the last 7 years, you will not be eligible to start the program. Students will be given the information to obtain these requirements at the orientation and advisement.
- The California Board of Registered Nursing may deny a license regulated by the Business and Professional Code, Section 480, on such grounds as: being convicted of a crime, acts of dishonesty, fraud or deceit. All students selected for enrollment in the nursing program will be assessed for past criminal activity prior to clinical experiences.
- A valid SSN or ITIN is required
Prior to applying, students must achieve an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 for Human Physiology (BIO 220; 4 semester units), and Microbiology (BIO 230; 5 semester units) with no grade less than "C" for each course and no more than one repetition of any of these courses. Repeating a course after receiving a "W" does not count toward the single repetition rule.

The online application to the LVN-RN Program (degree seeking and 30-unit option) will be available in under "Student Forms" March 1-7 (to apply for both summer and fall).
You must have an active MCC student account to apply to the LVN-RN program. Students are inactivated at 黑料网 after two semesters of non-attendance.
All applicants with a complete application will be placed in a lottery for admission.
Transcript Requirement
Please submit official AP scores and official transcripts from every school attended to Admissions and Records two weeks prior to the application deadline.
